Do the Sun’s Rays Cause Skin Cancer?

The Skin You’re In

Summer means you’ll be out in the sun, exposed to its cancer-causing rays, right? Wrong! You’ll be out playing, hiking, swimming, or just lying on the beach in the sun. You will probably burn unless you use sunscreen. Applying sunscreen is a good idea because a sunburn can hurt. But, as Dr. Glidden knows, exposure to the sun’s rays does not cause cancer. This myth came about because of the monopolization of the medical marketplace by the MDs and the pharmaceutical industry. The information that we get in the public domain about health and disease is one-sided, biased, and, yes, often wrong. You’ve probably also heard that the higher the SPF number on the sunscreen label, the better. That too is incorrect. SPF 15 is all you need. Any number higher than SPF 15 is no more effective. It is simply more expensive.

Read All About It

Dr. Glidden refers to a scientific article in The Lancet, a UK medical journal, reporting that indoor workers get more skin cancer than outdoor workers. Here’s where you’ll learn the difference between ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B radiation. There’s also a PubMed article about vitamins, minerals and fatty acids decreasing cancer rates. The British Journal of Dermatology published an article stating that increased skin cancer rates are due to diagnostic mistakes.
